When You're Carrying It All: Finding Support, Balance, and Hope in Marriage

Updated: Jul 12

Do you often feel overwhelmed? Does your to-do list seem endless, leaving you feeling like there aren't enough hours in the day to complete it? Do you feel isolated, as if you're the only one responsible for getting things done, and if you don't do them, they won't happen? Are you anxious about not completing tasks that need attention? Do you endure this quietly while your husband appears carefree?

You are not alone. Approximately 40% of married mothers in heterosexual marriages report that they handle more of the responsibilities related to managing children's schedules and activities than their spouses do, while only about 5% say their spouse takes on more. This disparity often correlates with lower relationship satisfaction. (Pew Research Center) It may not seem apparent because you don't hear your friends discussing it, but many women choose not to speak about their silent struggles, either out of respect for their spouse or because they feel they should manage everything independently. As a devoted Christian wife and therapist with over 10 years of experience working with couples and families, I can confirm that this issue frequently brings couples into my therapy sessions. The Bible encourages wives to love and support their husbands and views childbearing as a blessing. I believe this is true, but unlike in the past, women are also expected to contribute financially. Providing security and being the primary breadwinner was traditionally how men shared the household responsibilities. So, in a time when this balance seems elusive, how do we manage it all?

Therapy with Grace offers women a space to organize their thoughts and emotions and learn how to express their needs and expectations to their spouses. Therapy with Grace provides couples counseling and individual counseling both in person and online for all women in CA seeking to feel supported, loved, cared for, and in control of their lives, contributing to their happiness and balance in marriage.

Marriage was never meant to be a journey where one person silently carries the weight of the family alone. If you find yourself overwhelmed, exhausted, or feeling unseen, your needs matter. Seeking support is not a sign of weakness—it is an investment in your well-being, your marriage, and your family.

You don't have to continue navigating the mental load by yourself. Therapy can help you gain clarity, set healthy expectations, strengthen communication, and create a partnership where both spouses feel valued and supported.

At Therapy with Grace, we can work toward a marriage where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to thrive—not just survive. You deserve a life marked by peace, connection, and balance. If you're ready to take the first step, We will be honored to walk alongside you. God willing.
